How many user devices can my access point handle?

Follow

Real-world capacity can vary widely from advertised specs from a lab. While we've successfully tested more than 100 simultaneous connections in a lab, we recommend a real-world capacity of less.

The OM2P can handle between 20-30 clients at maximum capacity.

The OM2P-HS and OM5P-AC unit can handle slightly more at 30-40 clients.

The MR1750 can handle even more at 35-70 clients.

If users are doing less bandwidth-intensive applications, the access points can handle more clients, but we recommend going no more than 50 in most cases on the OM series, and no more than 100 on the MR series.

Is there any way of controlling the number of users on an access point?

I would like to control the number of users on access point, as well. How do we do that?

There currently isn't a specific way to control the number of users per access point. You can adjust the Tx Power of the network to limit the coverage area so that users will roam to the AP closest to them.

Where is that Tx Power adjusted on MR900?

And how do I expand the MR900? With which device? Another MR900?

The max Tx Power for the MR900 is 20dBm/100mw. Even if you set the power higher in Cloudtrax the MR900 isn't capable of transmitting higher than 20dBm.

You can expand your network with any other device but for optimum speed we recommend using more MR900s or the OM5P-AN.
